Combustion Process

The TurboMax™ engine offers powerful diesel-like performance while running on regular fuel. A multi-hole direct injection with up to 2,900 psi of pressure helps maintain high efficiency.

Turbo Design & Integration

An inline 4-cylinder arrangement provides a symmetrical natural turbo placement. Large cylinders feed into a near-equal-length integrated exhaust manifold that couples with the dual volute turbo. That means you get exceptional responsiveness and turbo boost performance.

Air Compression & Cooling

A large-charge air cooler acts as a mediator between the turbo and engine. This feature takes warm, compressed air and cools it down before reaching the engine, which helps increase efficiency and power for optimum towing capability in hot conditions.

What makes the TurboMax™ engine so appealing is its remarkable high-power output, fuel efficiency and 430 lb.-ft. of torque. It’s a product of rigorous testing and real-world trial that’s ready to work for you, and it shows.

Heavy-duty durability starts with a strong foundation. The engine has a fully forged-steel bottom end, starting with a stiff forged-steel crankshaft and supported by forged-steel main bearing caps.

Diesel Engine Technology

The TurboMax™ engine is designed to take on heavy loads with turbocharged power. That’s why it’s equipped with diesel technologies, such as tri-metal rod bearings, pistons with a fully machined crown and a cast-iron ring carrier supporting a physical vapour deposition (PVD) coated steel top ring.

Design and Build

The hydraulic tensioners reduce chain drive stress and high loads on chain drive systems to provide the durability you’d expect. The lower crankshaft extension helps support the main bearing caps, giving the engine a strong foundation to handle heavy turbocharging loads.

Thermal Conductivity

Cast-iron liners provide a durable wear surface for the rings, which is critical for long engine life. A locking interface helps move heat out of the cylinder to the water jacket where cooling occurs. Sodium-filled exhaust valve stems and high thermal conductivity valve seats and guides help keep exhaust valves running cool in extreme, high-performance situations.

Turbocharger Lubrication & Cooling

Keeping the turbocharger lubricated and cool are the keys to a long engine life. Symmetrical natural turbocharger placement allows for priority feed oil from the filter and optimized coolant routing, which helps the turbocharger cool after shutting down. And under extreme conditions, the electric water pump can provide after-run cooling.

Rear Cross Traffic Braking

When in reverse, this feature alerts you or automatically provides hard emergency braking to help prevent a collision with detected vehicles crossing behind you.

Blind Zone Steering Assist

Can provide a brief, firm turn of the steering wheel when a potential crash is detected with a moving vehicle in the lane you’re entering.

Rear Park Assist

When in reverse, this feature provides distance alerts of nearby detected vehicles and objects behind your vehicle to help you park and avoid collisions.

Forward Collision Alert and Automatic Emergency Braking

These two features work together to help you avoid or reduce the severity of a front-end collision. They can warn you if they detect a potential collision with a vehicle you’re following and automatically provide hard emergency braking, or enhance your hard braking.

Following Distance Indicator

Displays the gap time in seconds between your vehicle and a detected vehicle you’re following. This can help you maintain a safe following distance.

Front Pedestrian and Bicyclist Braking

Can help you avoid or reduce the severity of a front-end collision with a pedestrian or bicyclist it detects directly in front of you. It provides pedestrian alerts and can even automatically provide hard emergency braking, or enhance the driver’s hard braking. It has limited nighttime and low visibility performance.

Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning

Can alert you if you might be unintentionally drifting out of detected lane lines so you can quickly take action. It will not alert you if you’re using your turn signal or it detects you may be intentionally leaving your lane.

IntelliBeam

Detects lighting conditions and other vehicles, and turns the high beams on and off as needed, depending on vehicle speed.
